Peer Academic Coach
Peer Academic Coaches take private appointments with any student interested in weekly guidance on how to study effectively for UT courses. These private sessions are one hour and coaches typically work with the same students for the duration of a semester. Common appointment topics include note-taking, preparing for tests, test-taking strategies, goal setting, time management, and reading efficiency. Training is provided and the program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. Pay starts at $11 an hour and coaches receive increases based on their level of training and hours of experience.
- Currently enrolled UT student
- At least two semesters completed at UT before employment begins
- Overall UT GPA of 3.00
- Must be willing to work a minimum of six hours per week; hours are flexible.
- Must be available to work for at least two semesters
Peer Academic Coach applicants should also be open to working, if needed, as Career-Learning Assistants in our main office. Although hiring is primarily limited to two periods during the year (mid-spring for the following fall semester; mid-fall for the following spring semester), we accept applications on an ongoing basis in case positions become available.

PLUS Senior Preceptor
A senior preceptor serves as a coach or mentor to study group leaders for a particular course and acts as a liaison between the professor, students, and the PLUS coordinators. Main responsibilities include leading weekly training meetings with study group leaders, observing study groups and giving feedback, and completing various administrative tasks. Senior preceptors work 3.5 to 5 hours per week, based on the number of study groups supervised. The pay rate is $11/hour.
Senior Preceptors are paired with large (>50) upper-division courses in which they did well and generally have PLUS experience. Applicants can send an email of interest to Kate Walker indicating one or several such courses.

Outreach Assistants
Applications for fall 2012 are still being accepted on a rolling basis.
Outreach Assistants act as roving ambassadors who give short presentations about career and/or learning services and facilitate workshops on a variety of topics for academic classes, residence halls, and student associations. Outreach Assistants also staff exhibits at public and campus-wide events. As an Outreach Assistant, you may also have the opportunity to design personalized presentations for programs and to assist with publicity in print and online formats. Pay starts at $11 an hour and Outreach Assistants receive merit pay increases based on training and hours of experience.
If you are interested in becoming an Outreach Assistant, you must first meet the following qualifications:
- Maintain full-time student status (12 credit hrs) in each semester for which you are employed.
- Have completed 24 hours of academic credit by the beginning date of employment (Fall 2012).
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.

Tutoring Center Student Assistants
Student assistants function as receptionists in the David Drum Drop-In Tutoring Center (open Monday - Thursday, 11am - 10pm; Friday, 11am - 3pm; and Sunday, 5pm - 10pm) and address assigned projects when appropriate. They must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy environment.
Applicants must have a Federal Work Study award for the semester of employment. Interested students can pick up an application in the main office of the Sanger Learning and Career Center in JES A115. Pay starts at $7.50 per hour, and assistants work approximately 10-15 hours per week, depending on their award amount.

Graduate Writing Consultant
Writing Consultants assist students in graduate school--where writing is an important requirement--to become more independent, confident writers. They also typically develop individualized assignments and work on an on-going basis with undergraduate students enrolled in developmental writing and reading courses. Consultants must be able to interact effectively with post-baccalaureate students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines. They typically work 5-15 hours per week based on their availability and student demand for the service. Pay rates start at $16 per hour.
Applicants must have a Master's degree or equivalent to apply and are asked to submit their CV along with a brief writing sample by email. Applications are accepted year-round; employment opportunities based on current needs.
