I Want to Find Ways to Get Organized or Manage My Time

Attending class, completing your course work, keeping up with required reading, and still having time to enjoy the college experience is challenging. Have you ever had the feeling that there's just not enough time in the day? It may be that you're not spending time on the things you care about most. Here's how to get organized, set goals and achieve them -- and still have time to relax.

Create a master plan

Time to take control! Good time managers plan their work and work their plan. You'll need a day planner or calendar to keep track of your time. download Be Strategic with Your Time (PDF)

Start with the end in mind

Think through and plan your work, setting realistic goals while keeping the end goal in sight. We recommend writing your goals in a "smart" format. SMART is an acronym for the five elements of well-designed goals. download Setting SMART Goals (PDF)

Create a balance

Balancing school, work, and a social life can seem a bit like a juggling act. Think about what really matters to you. Schedule your social activities along with your academics and your work time. The key is to establish your priorities. download Setting Priorities (PDF)

Make it a practice

Getting organized and organizing your time is no easy task. It requires diligence, consistency, and determination on your part. These practices, however, will serve you for a lifetime -- professionally and personally. download Habits of Effective Students (PDF)
